The population of the world has always been huge, but due to technological limitations, we were restricted from accessing other countries and cultures without traveling. As time has progressed, the US has gone global. Now, with the click of a button, you can connect with anyone, anywhere in the world, through any number of means. There are 1.2 billion people on Facebook, using the platform an average of 20 minutes a day. There are over 40 million pictures and videos shared on Instagram each day. In addition to businesses expanding past the country’s borders, social media has rapidly increased our exposure to other areas of this earth – new world views, products, ideas, diverse perspectives, and of course, culture. As the world continues to push for globalization, the inter-dependencies we create among each other will keep growing. It’s important to recognize how these major changes will affect us now and in the future.
